I had a hard time adjusting to the way KCS worked when I came in as a Freshman. I had to get used to teachers supporting clueless students rather than scorning them (Based on my past experiences at Kalama). I also had a hard time getting used to the different way this school worked. I would let work fall through the cracks due to a mixture of lack in teacher to student communication and fear of rejection. I had to remediate a lot of work as a result; Over the following summer I had to take a math course to earn back 2 credits. Eventually, I began to pick myself up and became a better self directed communicator. Coming to this school has changed me from the uncommunicative slacker that I was in middleschool. KCS is a school that uses project based learning through 21st Century Skills. I have changed a lot since I was a freshman- Improving on a lot of skills I was a bit fuzzy on in the past. I do my absolute best to stay in contact with teachers or members of a group I am working in (Interpersonal). I do my best to be an enthusiastic speaker when I am any presenting (Communication). My internship at Maui Time Weekly involved me putting out my writing to the community(Civic Literacy & Engagement). I am motivated by my goals for success, nobody is forcing me through this (Self Directed). In the future I plan to use these skills in order to write fiction. I have assembled a small team of writers and illustrators, myself included amongst the writers. I will work alongside with these people in order to bring some quality content to the masses.
